About This Website

You might wonder why I bother referencing some of the information I put on this website, since most sources say the same thing, and it’s probably of no use to most readers. It’s mainly so I know how much progress I’ve made on the various parts of the website, and so that any differences between the numerous styles of the martial art can be identified.

I have tried to be consistent throughout this website to write the corresponding terminology and romanisation for phrases such as technique names, or historical events, people or places. Lots of people find learning the Korean hard, but one way to make it easier is to use it more extensively. I think it is also very underused in the martial art, considering it is relatively simple.

Learning Korean

Throughout the website I’ve placed sections called ‘Korean in Context’. These will help you to learn Korean words that are related to other information on that page, and are a convenient way of dividing the vocabulary.

Korean Date

The date today is,

4350 년 4 월 28 일 (4350, Month 4 Day 28) (22 June 2017 CE)

This is the date according to the traditional lunisolar calendar of Korea. (Note that this is not an authoritative calculation; I’m still working on the details.) The years count back to the legendary founding of Korea by 단군 왕검 (Dan-gun Wanggeom).
